The different types of marquee
Are you planning on throwing a marquee event for the ages, but aren’t sure which tent style is best for you?
When it comes to marquees, there isn’t just one type available for hire – there are numerous designs to consider for your special occasion. At Mahood Marquees, we offer several different marquee styles, which we explore in depth throughout this blog. Keep reading to find out more!
What is a marquee?
A marquee is a temporary enclosed structure that provides space for a wide range of events, including weddings, parties, celebrations, corporate gatherings, trade shows and much more.
Many opt for marquee events as they allow location flexibility and customisability, and don’t come with the same space constraints as permanent venues.
What different marquee styles are there?
There isn’t just one marquee type available for hire – there’s a selection of tent styles to choose from:
Clearspan frames
Clearspan simply refers to a structure that doesn’t have internal support poles. We offer two types of clearspan marquee: clearspan A-frame and clearspan curved frame.
Clearspan A-frame
This clearspan frame forms a classic ‘A’ shape, which simply refers to two sloping sides that meet at the peak of the roof, similar to a house roof. These marquees are very popular given their many top-selling points and advantages, which include:
- More interior space – Doesn’t feature internal support poles, providing extra space for seating, stages, bars, dance floors or trade stands. Gable widths range from 2m to 25m, so there’s a size to accommodate all needs and guest numbers.
- Good structural strength – Strong and sturdy aluminium frames can withstand bad weather conditions better than traditional pole marquees, as their frame is much more stable.
- Custom interior design options – Like most of our marquees, these structures can be constructed with a choice of walls, flooring and decor. You can choose between solid sides or glass walls, cassette or plywood flooring and numerous lighting options to suit your tastes.
- Weatherproof design – You don’t have to stress about the British weather with this tent, as it offers an exceptional performance against the elements, making it suitable for a range of outdoor events.
- Perfect for tight spaces – Frame marquees are ideal for compact areas as they don’t rely on guy ropes.
- Set-up almost anywhere – Marquees can be installed on grass or soft ground, hard surfaces like concrete and even uneven ground with the correct planning.
Clearspan curved frame
This stylish design offers the same benefits as a classic clearspan A-frame but with a more contemporary appearance. As the name suggests, this marquee has a roof with a curved contour for a modern feel. To achieve this, the roof is split into three parts with additional inter purlins for extra support and to keep the PVC exterior following the curve.
Like the A-frame, the curved design doesn’t feature internal support columns or guy ropes for stability, and also offers these benefits:
- Higher roof – The curve creates a more open and spacious feel within the marquee.
- Modern aesthetic – This frame’s smooth, curved roof appeals to those searching for an elegant and chic venue.
Dune roof marquees
The dune roof marquee style brings the same impressive benefits of clearspan structures, but with added flair owing to its impressive architectural look. This marquee type provides:
- Distinct style – The roof resembles a gentle rolling dune landscape, which softens the appearance of the structure and offers a unique style from standard frames.
- Modular structure – Dune roof marquees allow you to create flexible layouts as each 9m x 6m module can be linked to other structures.
- High roof pitch – This event tent boasts lots of internal headroom, helping to create an open area suitable for multifunctional use.
Pagoda marquees
Pagoda marquees are sophisticated, quaint temporary venue structures, perfect for holding a whole host of smaller events. This style of marquee has a distinctive peaked roof, reminiscent of traditional East Asian architecture. Pagoda tents for hire are:
- Available in numerous sizes, from 3m x 3m to 5m x 5m.
- Very adaptable, and can be used as standalone structures or as part of a larger set-up – such as an entrance space to your venue.
